It is a gentle Japanese healing technique that assists the body’s natural healing ability of the mind and body.
Reiki, the word itself, means ‘spiritual energy’.
The Japanese interpretation can be revealed by splitting the word in two:
Rei – spiritual
Ki – energy
When we talk of this spiritual energy, it is a reference to the highest and purest life force energy present within all living things. It exists within all of us, is the true essence of what it means to be human, is around us everywhere and is all encompassing, connecting us all together. This energy has a consciousness and intelligence and can also be viewed as pure love and compassion. It flows freely and easily when our body, mind and spirit are balanced.
Thoughts and feelings from daily experiences and interactions with others all carry an energetic charge. Sometimes the thoughts and feelings generated are unwanted and unpleasant and within our human forms work against the natural flow of energy as it should be.
A good and balanced flow of energy in and around our bodies is crucial to our overall well being.
A lot of us know that the heart is the organ responsible for enabling blood to flow around the body, the lungs for air in our air passages and the brain for nerve impulses along the spinal cord and nerves. All these things are physical but energy is intangible – that is, not having a physical presence. It’s hard to feel, see or monitor. Many of us don’t know of the concept of energy flow within the human body, we have lost some of our ability to have awareness of this energy and don’t realise how important it is.
THE REIKI SYSTEM OF HEALING, WITH IT’S FIVE ELEMENTS WORKS TOWARDS HELPING US TO:
- BECOME MORE SENSITIVE TO AND AWARE OF,
- GET BACK IN TOUCH WITH,
- REGULATE THROUGH SELF HEALING
- AND LASTLY TO SHARE ……..
OUR ENERGY IN A NONE INTRUSIVE, SAFE AND EFFECTIVE WAY WITH OTHERS.
The Meridian System
This is the system of channels throughout the body that carry energy where it needs to go. There are three main energy centres that interlink with the meridian system. According to traditional Japanese Reiki Practitioners, these centres lie within the centre of the body, one in the head, one at the level of the heart and one in the lower abdomen just below the umbilicus (called the hara). They are often called The Three Diamonds. A widened channel of energy in the centre of the body links them together and carries a flow of energy between them. When the three centres are joined and energy is flowing well between them, the body, mind and spirit are said to be balanced.
The other effect from this is that we more easily find ourselves having a heightened experience of the interconnectedness shared between all living things and a strenthened sense of oneness with other human beings and the natural world. This can help us to ‘feel’ and ‘percieve’ things within our personal relationships and during our interactions with others in a more healthy, loving and balanced way.
